Cowley Road’s Verde Pizzeria restaurant offers an up to date menu with not only a large range of deliciously different pizzas, but also tasty meat and pasta dishes, without even mentioning the range of starters and desserts.
Walking into Verde you cannot help but notice the open kitchen where a team of dedicated chefs are visible to all. Everything is made with the finest fresh ingredients, making sure that you always have a first rate experience with first class food.
Walking to sit down it is clear to see that owner Marcello takes a lot of pride in his restaurant and you can see this from his fantastically designed interior, to his kind mannered staff, who are on hand the second you walk through the door.
As I sat down, a friendly waiter talked me through the pre set 3-course meal with a bottle of D’Abruzzo, an Italian wine, for just £34.90.
Whilst looking over the menu a plate of freshly cooked bread was placed in front of me; the perfect way to whet the appetite. Looking through the menu, unlike many Italian restaurants, there is a wide variety of foods staring back at you to fit all tastes. After what felt like a lot of deliberation, I finally chose my starter from the specials menu, Funghi con gorgonzola; button mushrooms topped with honey and gorgonzola, served with toasted bruschetti, a mouth-watering combination of flavours.
My main course was a little trickier to choose, however, as there were so many dishes that appealed. The waitresses were more than delighted to give me advice, and one in particular, fairly new to Verde, who described the food as ‘out of this world’. I took her advice and went for her favourite, the Pollo al Martini Bianco, pan fried chicken breast served in a white Martini sauce with smoke pancetta, mushrooms and zucchini fritti. The chicken was cooked to perfection and the rich sauce was just delectable. She was most certainly right, the food was out of this world. If this wasn’t enough, the chefs surprised me with a small bowl of spaghetti carbonara. (My favourite pasta dish). I certainly wasn’t going to complain, there was more of a smokey taste, but this gave the dish character unlike some carbonaras which can appear bland and tasteless, this is a must have for next time.
Verde Pizzeria is a one of a kind Italian restaurant, however, if you haven’t got the time to sit down and eat, why not get a take out and enjoy the fantastic flavours in the comfort of your own home, I know I will certainly be taking the opportunity to do so very soon!!
