St John Ambulance is a unique organisation. Members range from Badgers aged five to ten, Cadets aged from 10 to 18 and Adults aged from 18 upwards, there is no upper age limit.
Our vision is that everyone who needs it should receive first aid from those around them. No one should suffer for the lack of trained first aiders.
Our members are all volunteers and do not receive payment when they go out ‘on duty.’ They do get to watch the football match or concert and have the satisfaction of being there to help others. They are well trained on a regular basis and kept up-to-date with new first aid methods and legislation.
Payment received from the event organiser is used to provide training, uniform and equipment and helps to keep St John Ambulance at the top of its field.
We also have opportunities for people who don’t want to be first aiders, we need treasurers, administrators, youth leaders and people who can make a good cup of tea!
St John Ambulance has a thriving youth movement and young people learn a wide variety of skills whilst having a great deal of fun! Youth leaders are needed to help us facilitate youth activities and if you are interested we want to hear from you.
Oxfordshire also has a robust cycle responder unit which means that first aiders can often be first on the scene when it is difficult or impossible for a vehicle to attend. If you are a keen cyclist and have some time to spare please get in touch.
St John Ambulance trained nearly 600,000 people in 2008. Our trainng courses are numerous, wide ranging and diverse, providing training for the workplace and members of the public catering for all ages and abilities. They include: First aid at work, Emergency aid for the appointed person, Emergency lifesaver child and infant, Early years first aid and health and safety training. |
