The Oxfordshire Sports Partnership is the ‘Voice for Sport’ in the county. One of 49 County Sports Partnership’s across the UK, the Oxfordshire Sports Partnership is a network of agencies, groups and individuals who are committed to getting the people of Oxfordshire more active.
The Olympic Games in Beijing have come and gone. Who would have thought Team GB would do so well and exceed all pre-Games expectations? Now the focus is on London 2012. Will Great Britain perform better? Will London provide a lasting legacy for sport? The Oxfordshire Sports Partnership is aiming to create a local legacy by achieving their vision: “Everyone in Oxfordshire enjoying a more active lifestyle and achieving personal success through sport.”
To help achieve the vision £1.4 million is being invested in the county over the next three years in a new project, GO Active (Get Oxfordshire Active), which aims to increase the number of adults over 16 years old engaging in moderate exercise for 30 minutes at least three times a week. GO Active will be launched near you in January 2009, and more information can be found on the website soon.
The Oxfordshire Sports Partnership's website provides all the information you need to get involved in sport and active recreation. From the Activity Search, where you can find out information about local sports clubs or activities, to key health messages such as “Half Hour Health”, the recommended amount of physical activity you should be doing on five or more days of the week. You can also find and book courses online in the Oxfordshire Sports Partnership’s education for sport directory ‘In The Zone’ which aims to support the sporting knowledge and development of coaches, volunteers, sports professionals and teachers. Sign up to Oxfordshire Sport Enews for regular updates on sport in the county, search for local news, job vacancies, volunteer opportunities and events.
Next month will see Oxfordshire's talented sports teams, individuals, clubs, volunteers and coaches being awarded for their achievements and efforts at a prestigious awards ceremony held at the Kassam Stadium in Oxford. The Oxfordshire Sports Awards is a glamorous evening to celebrate the wealth of sporting talent and dedication seen within Oxfordshire throughout the year.
