| Quod Brasserie |

Quod Brasserie and Bar is a modern British and European restaurant serving
simple food with sophistication and style. Delicious pasta, giant pizzas, think New York for the best burgers in the city made from beef reared on the owner’s
Oxfordshire farm and fish flown in twice weekly from Jersey.
My husband and I visited Quod with our two children to try the new autumn menu. Quod attracted us because it has something for everyone and forms the hub of the sophisticated art hotel, the Old Bank. In the centre of town on The High Street with a large car park at the rear and the owner’s collection of contemporary art adorning the walls it couldn’t have been a more convenient place to stop. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable offering the children coloured pencils, quizzes and word searches.
To start, I ordered a perfectly balanced aubergine parmigiani, my husband chose fresh Jersey crab bruschetta.
Main courses arrived in the form of whole grilled lemon sole with sauté potatoes, thyme and lemon butter. The fish was perfectly cooked, the sauté potatoes with thyme and lemon butter complimented it superbly. Our waitress recommended the Gruner Veltliner which was dry, fruity and crisp certainly a well chosen match for the dish. My husband's 'Rofford Farm' beef bourguignon with creamed potatoes was robust and deeply flavoured which he enjoyed with a glass of Merlot.
My son chose the freshly baked Margherita Pizza which he likened to one he had eaten in Italy and our youngest demolished her burger, chips and ice-cream cone chosen from the “Little Quod” Menu all for a breezy £5.
Puddings, a smooth chocolate pot and a plate of Isle of Mull cheddar with pear from the owner’s farm and oatcakes ended the meal perfectly.
Quod is open for breakfast from 7am, serves a two course set lunch menu for 9.95 Monday to Friday from midday until 7pm, tea in the afternoon and a Sunday roast every week. The large bar serves coffee and cocktails and has an impressive wine list with imaginative bar snacks. Sunday evenings you can drop in for a drink or have a meal and listen to Tim Dawes and other world-class musicians performing contemporary jazz from 5 – 7pm inside by the bar or weather permitting outside on Quod’s large, sophisticated terrace.
