The mouth-watering display of goodies in the window is the first thing to tempt you in to this cafe in High Street, right in the centre of Oxford- and once inside there is even more to choose from.
There is a range of breakfast options, along with soup, lasagne, pizza and jacket potatoes, and a variety of bread options including double decker sandwiches, ciabatta and paninis, as well as some tempting salads. There’s something for everyone here.
The paninis, which are made from bread which is part-baked on the premises, are available with a range of fillings (I recommend the mozzarella, olive oil and basil), and come with a generous portion of salad. They are crisp and tasty- which is very welcome as too often paninis can be either soggy or burnt (!).
Should you have room afterwards, there are some gorgeous sweet treats to choose from, including chocolate shortbread, cakes and muffins (the white chocolate and raspberry muffin is particularly good), and again, the portions are generous. To wash it all down, the coffee is perfect and the hot chocolate deliciously creamy. On warmer days, go for a smoothie or a fresh orange juice.
The cafe has a deli section selling a range of Turkish goodies, from Turkish delight to Turkish coffee. I bought some coffee as I needed a birthday present, and was helpfully given instructions on how to make it- it turns out making Turkish coffee the traditional way is a real art.
The central location, cosy atmosphere, friendly staff and the fresh, generous portions of food (and at reasonable prices too) all make this cafe an ideal location for a breather from shopping- and right now, it is also an ideal place to get in out of the cold. It is no surprise that this chain is expanding across Oxford. It is hugely popular, and it stands out above the competition. In a city of so many eateries, this is no mean feat.
