Some of the more chic boutique style restaurants are often located just away from the usual prime locations, and the same is true of The Pink Giraffe.
Situated in the St Clements Restaurant District, ease of access and plenty of parking (at just £1 for the night) are two great ways to start your dining experience. On entering the restaurant, the striking new colour scheme and energetic welcome set the scene straight away. Try to get a table upstairs if you can.
The menu carries all the Eastern favourites and more besides specialising in the unique fusion of Chinese and Thai cooking methods in true ‘Pink Giraffe’ style. Essentially, this is a blend of red and green peppers, bamboo shoots, Thai basil, fresh chilli and French beans in a sweet and spicy sauce – just lovely!
The restaurant has also developed some fantastic non meat dishes replacing the traditional beef, chicken and lamb with soya meat. Though not altogether my personal preference, these dishes are still very much worth a try. The bar supplies a good selection of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks including a comprehensive cocktail menu.
At the time of our visit, probably a third of the restaurant were Chinese customers, which I think always bodes well. These were mainly families with grandparents, parents and children, all well catered for. The full menu is also available for takeaway and home delivery at competitively discounted prices, but for your first encounter I would definitely recommend a visit to the restaurant.
At capacity (Friday and Saturday nights) the restaurant caters for roughly 80 covers, but I would recommend a Wednesday or Thursday evening where you still get the atmosphere with shorter waiting times. The first floor is available for private hire, and would make a GREAT location for a private or office party.
Overall, a well run restaurant offering truly delicious mout-watering Eastern cuisine – well worth a visit!
