In the middle of the buzzing area of Cowley Road, you will find Malikas, which guarantees a superior Indian cuisine experience!
The restaurant has just been refurbished and the new looks are very modern. There are seats for 70, which is an extension to the space before the refurbishment, but still the atmosphere is cozy and relaxing.
We received a very warm and friendly welcome and our table was ready for us when we arrived. Of course, we started out with poppadoms, which dipped in the chutneys and sauces were already a delicious experience – and we could not resist asking for a second portion! We shared a good bottle of house wine to accompany our tasty intro to Malikas.
We were so occupied with the poppadoms that we almost forgot to order, but when we did, not being curry aficionados, we got great advice form our waiter, who was very patient, explaining the differences of the many different dishes to us. Based on this knowledgeable advice, my guest, who normally always stays on the safe side by ordering a chicken Korma, even went for something new.
I had chicken Rogan, which I was advised would suit me. The chef added extra tomato to cater to my liking, as they believe each customer deserves a curry special to them. As a side, we ordered Sag paneer, which is a mix of spinach and cheese and also Sag Aloo spinach and potatoes.
We happily continued with our poppadoms until the mains arrived, and, God, were they good! Beautifully presented in artistic formed bowls, it was the most enjoyable eating experience!
In the end we were too full for any desserts, but while we finished our drinks, Mohammed, the owner, told us a few more details about the restaurant. He explained to us that Malikas is more than just an average restaurant; most guests are returning customers (even after the refurbishment).
Mohammed, a kindhearted chap, also sponsors the Oxford Brookes Cricket Team, which we were fortunate enough to meet, as they were eating there on the same night. In the future, there are charity nights planned at Malikas and for those who work nearby, they will soon have special offers at lunchtime.
We found out that with great service and wonderful food, this restaurant really stands out in Oxford’s long list of Indian restaurants.
