Located in the beautiful village of Sandford on the outskirts of the city, the newly refurbished Kings Arms opens its arms to Oxfordshire. Ideally placed next to the stunning lock, the restaurant is very picturesque, offering generous seating and tables outside on the patio or sit inside the inviting cosy restaurant with candlelight. The three open fires glow, filling the Kings Arms with warmth and character.
Spoilt for choice, the menu presented a fantastic variety of delicious British food, offering nothing but the best exceptional meat and game and a separate fresh fish board. There’s also a fine choice for vegetarians.
I wisely decided to choose a small starter as I had already sneaked a look at the dessert menu!! My guest and I tucked into the deliciously warm homemade garlic bread, soft and tasteful, setting us up pleasantly for our main.
After much anticipation and pondering, I was more than pleased with my choice of Fillet Steak, accompanied by fresh seasonal vegetables. Stunningly presented on a rectangular plate, the fillet was cooked wonderfully to precision, succulent, plump, moist and full of flavour. The tasty, creamy béarnaise sauce was a fantastic choice to complement. Simply divine.
My guest had the Fabulous Free-Range Breckland Duck. The duck was perfectly grilled remaining tender and delicate but still meaty in texture, delightfully drizzled in a zesty orange sauce, along with new potatoes. Looking so delicious, I couldn’t help myself to try, it tasted as good as it looked.
There was no contest for dessert, I’d had my eye on the Warm Chocolate Fondant Pudding all night. Another beautiful presentation. The rich and smooth chocolate pudding was all that it should have been with the cold vanilla ice cream cutting through the rich chocolate - gorgeous and scrumptious.
My guest had the Apple and Banana Crumble. The crumble was superbly golden covering the tasteful flavours of the fruit filling. Cream trickled over the top to round off the pudding.
With an exceptional and flawless service from all the staff, not to mention the level of high class home cooking, full of outstanding tastes and textures, The Kings Arms is a must to visit.
