Oxford’s Fire & Stone restaurant offers an exciting, contemporary menu with not only a large range of deliciously different pizzas, but also some tasty salads, starters and desserts. Plus (and you heard it here first) they are also planning on launching a new pasta range in May.
The team of dedicated restaurant chefs make everything with the finest fresh ingredients, making sure that you always have a first rate experience each and every time you visit this exciting new Oxford restaurant.
As we found with our nine and thirteen year olds, Fire & Stone is also incredibly child friendly, with a special ‘Kids’ Meal Deal’ consisting of a mini pizza, soft drink and ice cream for just £4.95 available throughout the day.
Ed plumped for the ‘Sydney’, a crisp, oven-roasted smoked bacon pizza with free range egg, shaved smoke ham, mozzarella, Fire & Stone’s tomato sauce, basil and chives. Abi, back from a school trip to Portugal, was still in a continental mood and played it safe with a ‘San Margherita’, Fire & Stone’s signature pizza, with tomato sauce, sliced vine-ripened tomato, grated mozzarella and freshly picked basil.
Tina and I went further afield, Tina to South Africa for the ‘Capetown’, comprising slice Italian pepperoni, ground spicy beef, mozzarella, Fire & Stone’s tomato sauce and green chilli, topped with fresh basil and oregano. The ‘Bombay’ stood out as an unusual concept, so I had to go for it. A roast tandoori marinated chicken breast with spiced tandoori yogurt base, combined with broccoli, sliced red onion, mozzarella, spiced mango chutney and cucumber with mint yoghurt.
What a feast! The kids (and the adults were equally impressed) were immediately fascinated by the spaceship type oven which forms a dominating centerpiece to the whole restaurant. The wood-fired pizza oven can cook up to twenty four pizzas at any one time! The pizza dough is made on site every day in the restaurant’s kitchens to provide the crispiest pizza base possible. The bases are ample enough to support the substantial toppings – and, trust me, they are substantial!
All produce at Fire & Stone is sourced from local and specialist suppliers ensuring that all ingredients are authentic, fresh and, just as important, are low on ‘food miles’.
We were genuinely impressed by the whole package at Fire & Stone. At the end of a late midweek shift, staff can understandably become irritable, but credit where it’s due, the staff at Fire & Stone were attentive and willing from the first to the last.
With a wide range of pizzas and other treats on the menu, make Fire & Stone a must on your next outing in Oxford.
