It was a Monday evening and for most of us, all we want to do is curl up on the sofa with a box of chocolates in hand. However, this was not me tonight – Fallowfields was going to be my destination...and yes, I was very excited.
On arrival, I could not help but admire the beauty of the building, hidden behind a sea of trees. Walking into the entrance hall, we were greeted by a friendly member of staff who kindly took our coats and took us through to the lounge.
Although I was far from my sofa I felt immediately relaxed. The fantastically designed room creates a warm cosy atmosphere. Immediately, a waiter was on hand, describing all the drinks, which were on offer. I had my heart set on a sweet white wine, so I put the waiter to the test and I was not disappointed. Not only did it add life to my taste buds, but it was delightfully chilled. This was unquestionably the perfect start to the night. Our drinks were complimented by a small array of appetisers, which consisted of two fish samples and potato with stilton; these really were enough to quicken our appetite.
A wine list was promptly brought over to us, and we were talked through all of the exotic wines that they had on offer. Both my guest and me had differing tastes in wines – I like sweet wines and he wanted a dry, fortunately for us the knowledgeable staff were quick to find a wine which would suit both of our pallets. Our next destination was the dining room where the tables were set out with great precision with delicately placed crockery. I must say the food was out of the world! I selected Duck Tarine for my starter and my guest had Salmon all of which was skilfully presented. Our main courses were also something to be desired. I chose lamb, which was flawlessly cooked, and it really was mouth wateringly beautiful.
To finish we had a cup of tea and coffee, each served with Turkish delight. I would definitely recommend Fallowfields as the place to go to – not only was the food amazing but the staff should really be congratulated on their explicable service. As described by one of our fellow diners, Fallowfields is a haven of peace and tranquillity and I most definitely cannot argue with that. |
