Cafe Coco presents itself as the first of a number of quirky independent restaurants and bars on Cowley Road. Have you ever wished you could be in an exotic country, with the sun shining, a cocktail in hand, and a variety of foods with an array of different flavours? Café Coco takes you there, with its unique interior and sultry lighting; you would never believe you are just a mile from Oxford city centre!
A romantic atmosphere was set upon us as soon as we stepped inside. Our waiter was immediately on hand, offering a warm smile and friendly conversation to make us feel welcome. Walking through the restaurant, you cannot resist admiring the unmistakable interior of Café Coco. Once seated, your eyes are immediately drawn to the focal point of the restaurant….the bar! Varieties of glamorous drinks are offered and the staff are more than happy to advise you on your selection.
I selected a Red Russian, a mix of Absolut, Framboise, lemon and a dash of grenadine served in a sugar-rimmed glass - it was one of their fruitier cocktails. My guest went on to select a Mai Tai. This was another fruity concoction. There’s also an array of beers on offer including Peroni, Sagres and if you’re really feeling brave, you can select one of the litre bottles from the specials board.
For our starter, we chose to share garlic dough bread with hummus; the garlic bread was perfectly cooked and then the freshly made hummus dip just made it the perfect way to start our dining experience. For my main, I selected the Greek Pizza, a mouth-watering combination of feta cheese, fresh tomato, peppers, onion, sesame seeds, olives, and oregano served on top of a freshly cooked doughy base. My guest went on to select the classic meat lasagne, a fantastic combination of flavours. However, if you’re after something a little bit different, why not try something from the specials board?
Pudding was certainly going to be a challenge after our hearty starters and mains, so Instead of going for a gooey chocolate brownie, I indulged in a herbal tea and my guest a double Espresso.
As we left we found ourselves discussing our next visit. The tremendous staff and lively atmosphere make it impossible to fault Café Coco - superb food at affordable prices make for the perfect experience. Not only were we deciding when next to visit, we even started to choose what to eat next!!!
