There is something for everyone to enjoy at Blenheim Palace, and no matter how many times you visit you’ll find there is always something new and delightful to be discovered.
In March Blenheim Palace is hosting a fascinating exhibition about Gladys, Duchess of Marlborough. Gladys Deacon was second wife to the 9th Duke and was one of the most fascinating, brilliant and yet eccentric Duchesses of the twentieth century. She was the American mistress of Blenheim Palace during the 20's and early 30's who in equal measure fascinated visitors with her beauty and wit – and alarmed them with her wildness and eccentricity. This special exhibition displayed in the Long Library until 25th March features beautiful photography, costumes of the era, personal letters and Royal invitations.
2011 at Blenheim Palace looks set to be one of the best years yet and is packed with brand new events and activities. Peppa Pig and George as well as Ben and Holly from “Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom” will be coming to meet families in the Pleasure Gardens at Easter, a Royal Joust will celebrate the wedding of HRH Prince William and Kate Middleton on 29th April, there will be Outdoor Cinema in May and the CLA Game Fair returns in July.
Every year Blenheim Palace faces the challenges of keeping pace with the maintenance, restoration and conservation of the maintenance, restoration and conservation of the Palace and its grounds. Despite Blenheim Palace and Park being one of the first World Heritage Sites designated in the UK, it is the only one that does not attract any form of public or Heritage Lottery Fund funding, this is due to it effectively being in private ownership.
This year two major projects are taking place: the repair and redecoration of the Great Hall windows, due for completion at the end of June 2011, and the repair and restoration of the South Front steps, due for completion at the end of May 2011. We apologise for any inconvenience these essential works may cause. Visitors to the Palace make a hugely important contribution to the maintenance of this magnificent Palace for future generations. Thank you for your support.
