“The Shop @ In Oxford” is definitely worth a visit for a bargain and I was delighted with the ‘Double Indulgence Day Spa’ at Oxford’s leading hotel - the Macdonald Randolph Hotel.
The package is for two people with vouchers valid
for up to 6 months for a whole day at The Spa
which includes full use of their facilities and
gym, an hour’s treatment of your choice, and
a two course delicious lunch in the hotel’s dining
room – all for a total of £190.
As soon as you enter The Spa, you are met with glowing lanterns with fragrant oils wafting through the tranquil corridors and soothing music, it automatically gives you a sense of calm and peace before you start. Warmly greeted, we changed into our swimming costumes, fluffy robes and slippers and we were then free to enjoy the day as we wished with our treatments and our lunch all taken care of for us – pure bliss!
My friend and I started in the Relaxation Room which is situated just from the Reception area but was quite deceiving as the room was just so quiet and, well, relaxing! Just what we needed! There are little beds in there with duvets and blankets, so you can snuggle up and get cosy straight away with a book or a magazine.
The Spa hosts an unusual and delightful ‘Thermal Suite’ comprising four individually heated rooms from the Aromatherapy Steam Room, to the normal steam room at a higher temperature, to the Bio Sauna and then the Rock Sauna at 95° - all of them with individual essences including rose, eucalyptus and sandlewood.
There is a Sensation Shower to refresh you between the heated rooms, again with
different essences and temperatures, and an Ice Room filled with crusted ice
chippings to soothe tired muscles and refresh you before you try the Hydrotherapy
Jacuzzi with extra underwater massage jets that get to all those wobbly bits!
We both chose the Decleor Relaxing Aromatic facial which included a back and
neck massage as part of the treatment and it was absolutely wonderful – I think
I could have lain on the heated bed all day as the oils were massaged gently
but firmly into my tired aching neck draining away all the stress.
Lunch was a refreshing break as you go back into the main hotel and choose from a delicious selection including goat’s cheese, smoked salmon, salads, omelettes and classic favourite dishes such as shepherd’s pie – and for a small supplement of £9 you can add a glass of champagne which we couldn’t resist!
So for £190 for the two of you for a whole day from 9am to 5pm during Monday to Thursday, I can’t think of a better way for some “me” time and a chance to switch off and catch up with a good friend – I can’t wait to return!
