| 4500 From Delhi |

After opening branches in
Nottingham, Leicester and Southampton and receiving
high praise from cricketing greats Sachin Tendulkar
(India), Brett Lee (Australia) and Andrew Flintoff
(England), 4500 Miles from Delhi opened their
restaurant in Oxford in September 2007.
My wife Sue and I arrived for our meal and were
immediately struck with the immaculate presentation
of the restaurant with the clean lines of the
décor contributing to the warm and friendly
atmosphere together with the sight of four chefs
at the far end of the room in the open kitchen
busily preparing food for customers in the restaurant
already half full, even at the early hour of
6.30pm on a Wednesday evening.
When we sat down in the comfortable chairs we
liked the linen table napkins and modern cutlery
and we were soon presented with a sparkling dish
of poppadoms accompanied with a mixed thali of
chutneys. By then the still water we had ordered
had arrived as had the bottle of Pinot Gritiot
Rose, a beautifully fresh and lively wine from
Southern Italy.
For starters Sue had the mixed salad with fresh
avocado tossed with chicken tikka, which with
the yoghurt and mint dressing made this
unusual but subtle, and a delightful beginning
to our meal. I had the king prawn in an ajwan
garlic spiced marinade, chargrilled in tandoor
which was absolutely magnificent.
Soon after, our main courses arrived with Sue
having the lamb tawa which was dry roasted peppercorns
with green peppers, chopped onions and pieces
of boneless lamb stir fried. I went for the chicken
tikka breast which was grilled in the tandoor
and then cooked in a peppery fenugreek masala.
Each dish was served on exceptionally hot plates
and we both marveled at the unique tastes which
we had not experienced anywhere else. The kitchen
pride themselves on their emphasis on quality,
freshness and clarity of tastes and aromas.
Having eaten more than usual for a midweek dinner
we both declined the amazing array of desserts
on display and settled for espresso coffes. We
were both genuinely impressed with the standard
of the food, the cleanliness and ordered nature
of the restaurant together with the attentive,
helpful and welcoming staff. We are certain that
this restaurant will not only be a hit with the
cricketing greats but with the discerning diners
of Oxford.
