Fidelity Blenheim Palace
International Horse Trials
Thursday
9th - Sunday 12th September: The Fidelity Blenheim
Palace International Horse Trials is in its 20th year of
running and is now firmly established in the eventing calender
with the world's best riders as well as the thousands of
spectators who come each year to watch the event. With
the magnificent backdrop of Blenheim Palace the first phase
of the competition "Dressage" takes place all
day on Thursday and Friday. On Saturday is the cross-country,
which is the pivotal part of the whole competition. The
finale, which is the Show Jumping takes place on Sunday
in front of the South Lawn of Blenheim Palace.
Mini and VW Show
Sunday
26th September: Mini and VW fans will head to the
beautiful Park here at Blenheim Palace, for a joint event
organised by Andrew Greenwood. There will be lots to see
for both Mini and VW owners. The organisers are expecting
over 5,000 visitors to arrive on the day. Whether you're
a Mini and VW fan, or you just enjoy the opportunity to
browse the show set within stunning surroundings this should
be just the ticket, with club stands, trade stands, concours
and also an autojumble.

Millets Maize Maze

Family home
of Lord Faringdon, who looks after the property on behalf
of the National Trust, together with the family collection
of pictures, furniture, ceramics, and objets d’art, known
as the Faringdon Collection. Includes Burne-Jones’s famous
series, The Legend of the Briar Rose. The enchanting gardens
contain the spectacular Water Garden designed by Harold
Peto' - in 1904 for the first Lord Faringdon.

of new material exploring Churchill as an "enthusiastic
amateur", his relationship with the County and the
Queen's Own Oxfordshire Hussars, his service as a Territorial
Army officer, ministerial interest in two world wars,
and the regiment's role in his state funeral.
Mike Bigland and Daren
Greenhow, sculptors

Bigland: Mike Bigland studied sculpture with David Howorth
in Bridgnorth, Shropshire for over two years after retiring
from a 32-year career in engineering design and manufacture.
This exhibition in the Oxfordshire Museum garden displays
his latest work in stainless steel, exploring the essential
elements of plant forms. The work has evolved to provide
interest throughout the year.
Daren Greenhow: Creation and innovation are strongly expressed
in Daren's Greenhow's metal sculptures. They are orginal,
unique, intriguing and immediately identifiable. His medium
of choice is steel, predominantly bicycle parts, using
welding as the primary joining technique. The butterfly,
dragonfly and lizard are wall mounted.

Superheroes

12th September: Explore the
history of Superheroes and comics from around the world.
Fun and appealing to all ages. A touring exhibition from
Stevenage Museum funded by Renaissance East of England.
Paintings by Oswald Couldrey
1882 - 1958

12th September: Abingdon's most
famous artist. The style of his watercolours is fresh,
slightly naive, and humorous. They form an important
documentary record showing detailed studies of ordinary
people going about their daily lives in the 1930's and
40's capturing the essence of life in a small market
town.
First
Wednesday of each month: Held on the first Wednesday of each month
at 6.30 from April until October and at 12.30 November
to March, a chance to find out more about the Manor, its
history and its contents with a different subject each
month and a lovely light meal to boot!

Family Holiday Mondays
Monday
6th September: A family day out in the lovely
setting of Sulgrave Manor.
Get a head for history without losing it!
Kids can dress
up as they did in the time of those terribly tricky Tudors
and take a special tour to find out how the eleven Washington
children lived and played at the Manor in the 16th century.
Meet Mr Washington and write with quills, handle some
unusual objects and even pose with sword in hand!. Take
the Family Holiday Monday Challenge which might mean
finding out about the very first American President or
looking for ‘lost sheep’ or strange creatures! There
are plenty of other trails-collect a sticker for each
one. Activities include I Spy and Be a Museum Detective
or a Garden Detective. Play some traditional games and
take home a brass rubbing.
The very young can run around
and spot some rather large ‘ladybirds’!
For those without
young ones: take a tour of the House, relax in the tranquil
gardens, enjoy some freshly prepared food and very good
