Susan Bonham – Serendipity Susan Bonham
Artist and Photographer Susan Bonham displays her recent collection of Contemporary Abstract Photographic prints in the O3 Gallery. These form part of a larger series of contemporary abstract composite images that were inspired by her long-term fascination with texture and colour found in the built environment. The images are a natural progression from the large abstract canvasses Bonham has painted previously, drawing on grid structures. Bonham is particularly interested in the relationships that are formed between the individual 'cells' within a grid and how these elements affect a whole composition.

Stephen Gray – Treescapes and Skylines Stephen Gray

An exhibition of Stephen Gray's current expressive series of ink and watercolour paintings, exploring the countryside and waterways where he lives in Oxfordshire.
Stephen studied at the West Sussex College of Design and has a background in graphic design and illustration, working for design consultancies and advertising agencies in the UK and overseas. His paintings reflect aspects of his training and experience, showing a keen eye for graphic content, surface texture and detail, all tied to a strong use of colour.

Christ Church Collection

Wiseman Gallery
Christ Church is unique among the Oxford and Cambridge colleges in possessing an important collection of Old Master paintings and drawings - some 300 paintings and almost 2000 drawings.
The collection is strong in Italian art, from the 14th to the 18th century:
there are paintings by early, often anonymous masters, and works by Fillippino Lippi, Tintoretto, Veronese and Annibale Carracci, to name but a few, as well as works by notable northern painters such as Van Dyck, Frans Hals and Hugo van der Goes.
The Picture Gallery at Christ Church represents one of the most important private collections of drawings in the country, including works by renowned masters such as Leonardo, Michelangelo, Durer, Raphael and Rubens. However, for reasons of conservation these works cannot be on permanent display.

Still one of Oxford’s Best Kept Secrets - 40 years of Christ Church Picture Gallery Christchurch Picture Gallery
Forty years ago, on the 2nd May 1968, Christ Church Picture Gallery was opened by the Her Majesty the Queen. Christ Church’s art collection was now housed in a purpose-built, prize-winning gallery by the architect team Powell & Moya. With this act Christ Church opened its famous collection of Old Master paintings and drawings to the public. The Picture Gallery has since then become a fixture for every art lover within and outside of Oxford.

Geometry of Fear  Geometry of Fear

Art historian Herbert Read coined the phrase ‘geometry of fear’ when describing the angst- ridden post war sculpture of Lynn Chadwick, Eduardo Paolozzi and Kenneth Armitage, shown at the 1952 Venice Biennale. These powerful works gave British sculpture an international footing.

Gary Hume: Door Paintings Gary Hume

‘The Doors are perfect paintings; a relief from the picture world I’ve created for myself.’ Gary Hume

Twenty years after Gary Hume emerged onto the British art scene with his Door Paintings, we present the first-ever survey of this rich body of work.
Large-scale, monochrome canvases painted with gloss house paint and based on the institutional doors of hospitals, the Door Paintings are foundational works in Hume’s oeuvre.
